WHO WE ARE

History

The Alpina Foundation was created in 2008 with the aim of contributing to solving the problems associated with rural development in Colombia.

We work independently from the activities and key actors of Alpina. We seek to achieve greater autonomy in the promotion of different production lines and agricultural and livestock diversity.

What do we do?

Our main purpose is to work towards transforming the lives of families, communities and organizations in the rural sector, through production projects which are evaluated and systematized, so that learnings can be replicated, contributing to improving public policies and having an impact on more rural communities.

At the Alpina Foundation, we are aware that sustainable development processes in rural communities are complex, with numerous complementary and inter-dependent social, cultural and economic factors playing their part, which is why our process requires a comprehensive strategy which combines different visions, disciplines and strategic lines.

Therefore, our sustainable economic and social inclusion processes, based on a facilitation model, are characterized by:

  • An inter-disciplinary technical team

  • - Knowledge and experience of organizational processes in complex territories, which implies the generation of collective capacities and the establishment of territorial agricultural systems, within which the commercial activities of small-scale producers are carried out.

  • Knowledge management in order to foster replicable sustainable practices on a larger scale and to have an impact on public policies.

  • Strategic alliances which guarantee continuity.

Our Purpose

We don’t just carry out projects, our greater purpose is to transform the lives of families, communities and organizations in the rural sector, as well as to generate and share knowledge. That is why we aim to co-create, receive and deliver learnings with multiple social actors in order to jointly contribute impactful ideas to the Colombian countryside.

Value Proposition

  • We are a social laboratory exclusively dedicated to studying and proposing concrete actions for the transformation of the Colombian countryside via the private sector.

  • We don’t just carry out projects, our overarching purpose is to transform the lives of families, communities and organizations in the rural sector, as well as to generate and share knowledge.

  • We seek to co-create, receive and hand over learnings with multiple social actors in order to contribute impactful ideas for the Colombian countryside in a joint fashion.

  • Our initiatives are rolled out alongside the communities. We recognize the different capacities and diversity of the territories.

  • Based on what we have learnt from our projects, we have managed to push forward with important actions to do with rural inclusion and sustainable agricultural projects.

  • As well as building alongside the communities, we create methodologies and instruments for adapting and replicating the initiatives. Only thus can we see how they grow across the territory and how they can then have an impact on national public policies.

  • The results we obtain after applying analytical instruments show social and economic improvements for the involved actors, thus fulfilling our three overarching commitments: the productive commitment, the knowledge commitment and the country commitment.
